Upcoming, Mark Fisher’s Final Lectures: Postcapitalist Desire #3 From Class Consciousness to Group Consciousness

We’re less than one week away from our Postcapitalist Desire reading group session, exploring the third of Mark Fisher’s final lecture transcripts in Matt Colquhoun’s latest book. The session will take place on Tuesday the 26th of January, 1-3pm GMT. Everyone is welcome, Fisher nerds and novices alike (as well as those just interested in discussing theory). We hope you can all join us for this in-depth discussion.

Each month we’ll be exploring each of the five lecture transcripts. Matt’s book also includes Mark’s full reading list for each lecture and an accompanying soundtrack. It’s up to you how far you wish to delve into each lecture as there’s a wealth of material in each, but we do ask as a minimum that you read the relevant lecture transcript before the session.

Should you wish, the extra readings for this session include:

  • Georg Lukács, “The Standpoint of the Proletariat” from History and Class Consciousness. (Available online at the Marxist Internet Archive: (https://www.marxists.org/archive/lukacs/works/history/hcc07_1.htm)
  • Nancy C. Hartsock, “The Feminist Standpoint: Developing the Ground for a Specifically Feminist Historical Materialism” in The Feminist Standpoint Revisited and Other Essays (Boulder, Colorado: Westview Press, 1998), pp. 105–132.

Like all of our series, these events are online and free. If you haven’t yet registered, there’s still time – get in touch via email or on Twitter and we’ll add you to the list. We’ll be sending out a Zoom link to everyone on the list nearer the time. Once you’ve registered, you don’t need to confirm attendance for each session – we’ll send you a fresh link every month. You also don’t need to commit to every session – just attend what you fancy (even if you miss the first session, there is more than enough material in each lecture for discussion).

We look forward to seeing you there. See you on the net!
